Home Minister N. China Rajappa on Sunday announced that
over 35,000 police personnel would be deputed on the ‘Godavari
Pushkaralu’ duties to ensure law and order on the banks of the Godavari.
Addressing
the general body of the East Godavari Zilla Parishad, Mr. Rajappa said
234 bathing ghats had been arranged in East and West Godavari districts
for the Pushkaralu, in which 169 ghats were located in East Godavari
district.
“About 90 per cent of the works have
already been completed and the remaining works will be completed before
the commencement of the Pushkaralu from July 14,” Mr. Rajappa said,
adding that an officer of the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police
would be deputed as security in-charge of every bathing ghat and an
officer of the rank of Deputy Collector would be the overall in-charge.
He further said that the APSRTC would operate 1,927 special buses from
different districts and 300 city buses in Rajahmundry.
Zilla
Parishad Chairman Namana Rambabu wanted the district Collector to issue
special passes to all the members of the Zilla Parishad.
