Garbage heaps, overflowing drains everywhere in Khammam

Civic body contract workers across the State continue their strike for the third day

In an effort to draw the attention of the government towards their grievances, the striking contract workers of the civic body conducted ‘vanta vaarpu’ in front of the Khammam Municipal Corporation office on Wednesday.
The contract civic workers organised similar protest demonstrations in other parts of the district on the third day of their strike to press for their charter of demands, including hike in minimum wages and social security provisions.
Garbage clearance and other sanitation works remained affected for the third consecutive day in a row on Wednesday due to the ongoing strike, sources said.
Meanwhile, the authorities roped in the services of the sanitation workers from Rajahmundry of Andhra Pradesh to remove garbage in Bhadrachalam.
According to sources, around 300 sanitation workers were brought to the temple town from Rajahmundry through outsourcing mode for utilising their services during the 12-day Godavari Pushkaralu.
